CALISTRO PRIZE FOR CHILDREN/YA FICTION 2012
RM10,000 prize to be won

We are pleased to announce The Calistro Prize for Children/YA fiction 2012. The Prize is aimed at promoting children’s books in Malaysia, written in any of the country’s languages and illustrated by local artists. 

The panel of judges, to be announced in October 2012, will be looking for original works that best describes life in Malaysia. Entries may be for picture books, story books, chapter books or YA. 

The best entry will be awarded the Calistro Prize and win a prize of RM10,000 and will be published by the Calistro Prize. The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Malaysia will be working with the winner to prepare the manuscript for publication. The winning entry will be published in Bahasa Malaysia and the original language of submission.

The first and second runners-up will be awarded a plaque each and will be offered advice by SCBWI Malaysia on editing their manuscripts to submit for publication.

Competition Rules and Requirements: 

  • Entries may be sent by email to malaysia.scbwi@gmail.com or by post to The President, SCBWI Malaysia, c/o The Bookshop, Bangsar Puteri, Jalan Medang Serai, Bukit Bandaraya, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.
  • Competition is open to Malaysian citizens residing in Malaysia, age 18 and above.
  • Entries may be in any language in use in Malaysia and a synopsis of not more than 300 words in English must be provided.
  • There is no limit to the number of words for each entry.
  • All submissions must be unpublished. Submissions must be received by: 31 Sept 2012. Winners will be announced by 15 Dec 15 2012. 
  • The author’s name and address must not appear on the manuscript. 
  • There is no limit to the number of entries you may submit
  • Each entry must include the following: One cover sheet per entry with your name, NRIC No, address, telephone number, email, word count and the title of the work.
